Unimodal Systems is the developer of SkyTran™, a solar-powered, high-speed personal mobility technology that will help eliminate urban congestion, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote energy independence. The company is collaborating with the NASA Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, CA to commercialize the automated maglev vehicle system.
SkyTran is a maglev transportation system based at NASA Ames. The motor system has been tested at low speeds. Work to be done includes high-speed testing, integration with higer levels of system control and exploring optimized methods of motor control. SkyTran is looking for advanced undergraduates or graduates for the following projects:
Internship Description
PRT simulator and hardware-in-the-loop simulator using real-world traffic data. At minimum would need knowledge of Python. Extend previous work initiated by another UCSC student. Project work can be done at home/campus. Work with students and SkyTran staff to evaluate several control systems under different conditions.
