Week 9: The College Transition and Snowboard Connection

Jeff Tavangar, the CEO and Managing Director of The Armada Group joined our student group for the last speaker of our weekly speaker series. Over the course of the past 9 weeks we have learned about a wide range of subjects, from Business Startup, Financing, Options, Social media and contracts (just read all our blog posts!). Jeff’s presentation was a perfect way to cap off the quarter. He talked about how to transition from college to the real world and advised our students to enjoy the transition by living a good lifestyle.

He first started off describing how he had always had an entrepreneurial inclination. For example, in high school he would buy otter pops at Costco (he approximated it at 5 bucks for 300) and would sell them at the beach for a dollar each. Or in another example, his friend and him would make a pretty nice profit painting one or two houses a week. After college he described how he spent a few months snowboarding in Tahoe

Was his advice simply to snowboard in Tahoe after graduation? No. His advice was to enjoy the time after graduation. After graduating you don’t need to take off into the mountains but you can start a business or do something that you really enjoy. He gave our students tips for developing skills that are valued in the market place and provided a framework for doing something interesting and meaningful.
